5 Common Boudoir Photography Myths (and Why They’re Totally Untrue)
If you’ve ever looked at boudoir photography and thought, “I’d love to do that, but I’m not confident enough,” or “That’s only for models,” — you’re not alone.
So many of the women I work with come to me with doubts, fears, and misconceptions about what boudoir really is. The truth? Boudoir isn’t about having the “perfect” body or being a certain age. It’s not even about being naturally confident or knowing how to pose.
Boudoir is about showing up exactly as you are — and discovering just how powerful that can be.
So today, I want to debunk five of the most common boudoir photography myths I hear from clients… and tell you the real truth behind them.
Myth #1: “I have to lose weight first.”
This is the most common concern I hear — and one of the most heartbreaking.
Here’s the truth:
You don’t need to change a single thing about yourself to be worthy of beautiful, empowering photos. Boudoir is about celebrating you as you are, right now — not a version of you 10 pounds from now.
Confidence doesn’t come from a number on a scale. It comes from how you feel in your skin, how you speak to yourself, and how you choose to show up.
Myth #2: “Boudoir is only for women in their 20s.”
Absolutely not.
I’ve photographed women in their 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond. Confidence is ageless — and so is beauty.
There is something incredibly powerful about choosing to celebrate yourself at every stage of life. In fact, many of my older clients say they feel even more empowered doing this now than they would have in their younger years.
Myth #3: “I’d be way too nervous to do something like that.”
Let me tell you something: every woman is nervous at first. That’s totally normal.
But once we start, something magical happens. With gentle guidance, a relaxed space, and a little pampering, the nerves melt away. You don’t have to know what you’re doing — that’s my job.
All you need to do is show up, and I’ll take care of the rest.
Myth #4: “I don’t know how to pose or be sexy.”
Good news: You don’t have to! You don’t need to be a model, or know your angles, or have a Pinterest board of poses ready.I’ll guide you through every movement, every expression, every detail — from the tips of your toes to the tilt of your head.
And here’s the secret: Boudoir isn’t really about being “sexy.” It’s about being you. Real, radiant, raw, powerful you.
Myth #5: “Boudoir is just a gift for a partner.”
While a boudoir album makes a beautiful, intimate gift — the most important person it’s for is you.
Many of my clients start off wanting to surprise their partner… but by the end of the session, they tell me how much they needed it. Boudoir is an act of self-love. It’s a chance to reconnect with your body, your femininity, and your sense of self.
You walk away with more than stunning images. You walk away changed.
You Are Already Enough
So, if any of these myths have been holding you back from booking a boudoir session, I hope this helps you see the truth:
You don’t need to wait.
You don’t need to be someone else.
You are already worthy.
And if this is something your heart has been whispering to you about… I’d love to hear from you.
