There is something so special about the hours before a wedding. The dress waiting to be worn, flowers arriving at the door, the familiar sound of your favourite people chatting while someone pours the first glass of champagne.
After months, sometimes years, of planning, the day you've imagined is finally here.
And while so much attention goes into the ceremony and reception, I think the wedding morning deserves a little consideration of its own.
Not because everything needs to be perfectly styled or meticulously planned, but because these are the last few hours before one of the most significant moments of your life. They deserve to be enjoyed.
From beautiful bridal sleepwear to the little details that make the morning feel personal, here are a few of my favourite ideas for creating a wedding morning that's entirely, uniquely yours.
Give Yourself More Time Than You Think You'll Need
If there's one thing worth being generous with on your wedding morning, it's time.
Hair and makeup can take longer than expected. Someone will inevitably misplace an earring. A bridesmaid might need help fastening her dress, or you may simply want ten minutes to sit down and enjoy a cup of tea or a sneaky glass of bubbles.
Work backwards from the time you need to leave for your ceremony, allowing plenty of time for getting dressed, photographs and any travel.
Ask your hair and makeup artists how long they'll need for each person, and speak to your wedding photographer about when they'd like to begin capturing the preparations.
A little extra time means you can enjoy those moments rather than watching the clock. And remember, not every minute needs to be accounted for. Some of the loveliest moments are the ones that happen when nobody is rushing.
Choose Something Beautiful to Get Ready In
Your wedding dress may be the star of the day, but what you wear beforehand can be just as enjoyable to choose.
There's something particularly lovely about making an occasion of getting ready. A beautiful robe, delicate slip or pair of silk pyjamas can make those first few hours feel a little more special.
I'm particularly drawn to pieces that feel feminine and considered, without being overly bridal. Something you'll genuinely enjoy wearing again, rather than an outfit that spends the rest of its life tucked away in a drawer.
And while ivory and white will always have their place, soft champagne, blush and other delicate shades can be equally beautiful.
The Wedding Morning Wardrobe Edit
I've picked out three pieces that have caught my eye recently, each offering a slightly different take on bridal getting-ready style.
For the romantic bride — Savannah Slip by Untamed Petals
Delicate floral lace, pretty covered buttons and a beautifully feminine silhouette.
The Savannah Slip has a romantic, slightly playful quality that I love. It's the sort of piece that feels special enough for the wedding morning, but could just as easily find its way into your honeymoon suitcase.

For understated elegance — Esme Long Robe by Gigi & Olive
There's something effortlessly beautiful about a long, flowing robe.
The Esme in bridal white has an elegant silhouette that would look wonderful in getting-ready photographs, particularly with soft natural light and the little details of your bridal accessories nearby.
It's a lovely choice for a bride who wants something timeless, with a little more drama than a traditional short robe.

For something relaxed but beautiful — Adele Top & Shorts Set by Gigi & Olive
Not every bride wants a robe or slip, and I think a beautiful matching set can be just as lovely.
The Adele Top & Shorts Set in champagne offers a softer alternative to traditional bridal white, with a relaxed feel that's still special enough for the occasion.
I particularly like the idea of choosing something that becomes part of your wardrobe long after the wedding.

A little practical advice: Whatever you choose, make sure it's comfortable and easy to remove once your hair and makeup are finished. A robe or button-front top is ideal, particularly if you're having an elaborate hairstyle.
And don't feel that everyone needs matching outfits. Coordinating colours or fabrics can look just as lovely while allowing each person to wear something that feels like them.
Make the Space Feel Like Yours
Whether you're getting ready at home, in a hotel suite or at your wedding venue, a few thoughtful details can make the space feel more personal.
Bring your favourite playlist. Arrange breakfast that everyone will actually enjoy. Have fresh flowers nearby, perhaps a small arrangement that complements your bridal bouquet.
If possible, choose a room with beautiful natural light and enough space for everyone to move comfortably.
It's also worth finding somewhere separate to keep bags, spare shoes, packaging and the inevitable collection of half-finished cups of tea.
You don't need a perfectly styled room. Just a space where you can enjoy getting ready without feeling surrounded by the practicalities of the day.
Gather the Details You'd Love to Remember
Some of the most beautiful wedding photographs are of the little things. Your perfume bottle sitting beside your jewellery, the delicate embroidery on your veil. A handwritten note from someone you love.
Perhaps you're wearing your grandmother's pearls or carrying a piece of fabric from your mother's wedding dress. These details might seem small in the moment, but they often hold wonderful stories.
If your wedding photographer will be capturing your preparations, gather anything you'd like photographed together in advance. Your shoes, invitations, rings, accessories and other personal pieces can all be ready when they arrive.
It saves searching through suitcases while everyone is getting ready, and gives those lovely details the attention they deserve.
Leave Room for the Unexpected Moments
Some of my favourite wedding morning moments are the ones nobody plans. Your best friend helping with a necklace. Your mum seeing you in your dress for the first time. Someone making everyone laugh just when the nerves begin to arrive.
You might choose to exchange letters with your partner before the ceremony, or have a private moment with your parents before leaving.
And if you're planning a little surprise for your partner, perhaps a handwritten letter or a beautifully presented personal gift, arrange for someone you trust to deliver it.
There's something especially lovely about those thoughtful gestures exchanged before you see each other. But the important thing is not to fill every minute with another activity. Leave room for the moments that happen naturally.
Remember That It's Your Morning, Too
It's very easy for a wedding morning to become about everyone else.
Making sure the bridesmaids are ready. Checking the flowers have arrived. Answering questions from suppliers. Wondering whether everyone knows where they're supposed to be. But this is your wedding day. You are allowed to enjoy being looked after.
Perhaps that means asking your maid of honour to handle last-minute questions, putting your phone away for an hour or simply sitting quietly with a coffee before the room fills with people.
You don't need to create a perfectly serene morning. A little chaos, laughter and excitement are all part of the occasion.
Just remember to give yourself the opportunity to experience it.
A Little Something Before the Wedding Day
There is another part of the bridal experience that I particularly love: the time before the wedding itself. The months when your dress is waiting, your accessories are carefully chosen and you're imagining what it will feel like to finally wear everything together.
For some brides, a bridal boudoir session becomes a beautiful way to celebrate that anticipation. A chance to wear the lingerie you've chosen, bring along your veil or bridal accessories, and create a collection of portraits before the wedding day arrives.
Some women choose to present their photographs as a surprise wedding morning gift. Others simply want something beautiful for themselves.
Either way, I love the idea of making a little more of this fleeting time.
It's an opportunity to celebrate yourself, not simply as a bride preparing for a wedding, but as the woman at the heart of it all.
Make the Morning Your Own
There isn't one perfect way to spend the morning of your wedding. You might love the idea of a room filled with bridesmaids, music and champagne. Or perhaps you'd prefer just one or two people beside you while you get ready.
You might have everything planned to the minute, or want a little more freedom to see how the morning unfolds. Whatever you choose, make space for the things that matter to you.
Because long after the flowers have faded and the dress has been carefully packed away, you'll remember much more than how everything looked. You'll remember how it felt to be there.
And that's what makes those hours before the wedding so special.
