What Should You Wear to a Bridal Boudoir Session?
One of the first questions almost every bride asks me is:
"But... what do I actually wear?"
If you've never booked a bridal boudoir session before, it's completely understandable. So many of my clients worry they'll need a suitcase full of expensive lingerie, perfectly coordinated outfits or the confidence of a model before they even arrive.
The truth is...
The most beautiful bridal boudoir photographs have very little to do with what you're wearing. They're created when you feel comfortable, relaxed and completely yourself.
Whether you love delicate lace, a cosy oversized knit, a robe or simply wrapping yourself in your wedding veil, this guide will help you choose outfits that feel elegant, timeless and authentically you.
Before We Talk About Clothes…
I'd love you to leave one thing at home. The pressure to look like somebody else.
You don't need to lose another half stone before your session. You don't need to buy the most expensive lingerie. You don't need to choose an outfit because somebody on Instagram wore it.
The women whose photographs stay with me the longest aren't the women wearing the most elaborate outfits. They're the women who finally allowed themselves to be seen exactly as they are. That's what creates timeless photographs.
Everything else is simply styling.
Start With Just Two or Three Outfits
One of the biggest mistakes I see is brides feeling they need to bring ten different outfits.
Honestly...You don't.
I'd much rather you bring two or three pieces that you absolutely love than lots of options you're unsure about. A carefully chosen wardrobe creates a gallery that feels beautifully cohesive and allows us to focus on creating relaxed, elegant photographs rather than constantly changing outfits.
Bridal Lingerie
When people hear the words bridal boudoir, lingerie is usually the first thing that comes to mind. And yes—it can be absolutely beautiful. Soft lace, elegant bodysuits and timeless satin pieces all photograph wonderfully.
The secret isn't buying the most expensive set. It's choosing pieces that fit beautifully and make you feel comfortable. Simple almost always photographs better than overcomplicated.
Don't Forget Your Wedding Veil
If there's one thing I'd always encourage you to bring, it's your wedding veil. It instantly transforms your photographs into something unmistakably bridal.
Whether it's draped softly around your shoulders, catching the light by the window or creating movement around you, it becomes one of the most meaningful parts of your collection.
If you haven't collected your veil yet, don't worry. I have a beautiful cathedral-length veil available for every bride to use during their session.
Robes
Robes add softness and movement that photographs beautifully. They're perfect for easing into the session and create a relaxed, editorial feel that's effortlessly elegant.
They're also ideal if you'd like a little extra coverage while still feeling beautifully feminine.
An Oversized White Shirt
Some of my favourite photographs don't feature lingerie at all.

Where to Find Beautiful Bridal Boudoir Outfits
One of the questions I'm asked most often is where to actually shop for bridal boudoir. The wonderful news is that you don't need to spend a fortune. Some of my favourite pieces have come from luxury bridal brands, while others have been found on the high street.
Here are a few places I genuinely love recommending to my brides.
Bluebella
If you're looking for contemporary lingerie that feels elegant without being overly traditional, Bluebella is a wonderful place to start. Their collections combine beautiful design with clean, modern styling and photograph incredibly well.
LOUNGE
LOUNGE has become one of my favourite brands to photograph. Their pieces feel modern, flattering and luxurious while remaining incredibly wearable. Several of my brides have chosen LOUNGE for their sessions, and it always photographs beautifully.
Homebodii
For romantic bridal robes and beautifully soft fabrics, Homebodii is one of my favourite recommendations. Their silk robes create an effortless, editorial feel and layer perfectly over lingerie or bridalwear.

Gigi & Olive create some of the most beautiful bridal accessories available. If you're looking for elegant veils, delicate bows or timeless finishing touches, their pieces add something truly special to bridal portraits.

Honestly? Don't underestimate Marks & Spencer. I've photographed beautiful bodysuits, satin slips and simple lingerie from M&S that look every bit as timeless as pieces costing much more.
The fit is always more important than the label.
What I Recommend Leaving at Home
There are very few rules...
But I'd usually suggest avoiding:
Anything that doesn't fit comfortably.
Busy prints.
Neon colours.
Outfits that need constant adjusting.
Anything you've bought because you think you should wear it.
If it doesn't feel like you, it probably doesn't belong in your session.
You Don't Have to Figure It Out Alone
This is something I really want every bride to know. You're never expected to arrive already knowing what photographs beautifully.
Before your session we'll chat through your wardrobe together. We'll talk about colours. Textures. Styling. What works well. What feels most like you. You'll also enjoy professional hair and makeup before we begin, giving you time to relax and settle into the morning.
You don't have to work any of this out on your own.
