Boudoir Photography as a Christmas Gift
Some Christmas presents are opened, enjoyed for a little while and eventually forgotten. And then there are the ones that become part of a story.
Boudoir photography can make a wonderfully personal Christmas gift, but perhaps not always in the way you might first imagine. You might be looking for something special to give your wife or partner: an experience she can look forward to after Christmas, with professional hair and makeup, beautiful photographs and a few hours devoted entirely to her.
Or perhaps you’re planning a boudoir session of your own, keeping the whole thing completely secret before surprising your partner with the photographs on Christmas Day.
Both can make incredibly personal gifts. They just work a little differently.
Giving Her a Boudoir Photography Experience for Christmas
If you’re searching for a Christmas present for your wife or partner and she has ever mentioned wanting to have a boudoir session, it can be a rather wonderful thing to give her. It isn’t simply a voucher for a photoshoot.
Her experience begins before I ever pick up my camera. We’ll plan her session together, she’ll receive wardrobe guidance beforehand, and on the day she’ll have professional hair and makeup before we begin photographing.
Sessions take place at my private location in the New Forest, Hampshire, with an entirely female team. Every session is photographed by me, Rebecca, and I guide my clients throughout — she won’t be expected to arrive knowing how to pose or what to do in front of the camera. There’s time to bring beautiful lingerie, try different ideas, be thoroughly looked after and enjoy doing something that feels a little out of the ordinary.
And afterwards, she gets to choose the photographs she loves.
It’s an indulgent present, certainly. But unlike many of the things we unwrap at Christmas, it also gives her something lovely to anticipate long after December is over.
Is Boudoir Too Personal to Buy for Someone Else?
This is probably the most important question.
Boudoir is an intimate experience, and I would never recommend surprising someone with a session simply because you would like photographs of them. The best person to give a boudoir experience to is someone who has already expressed an interest in doing it. Perhaps she follows my work, has mentioned wanting a session one day, or you simply know it’s something she would genuinely enjoy.
The distinction matters.
The gift should feel like “I remembered you wanted to do this”, rather than “I’d like you to do this for me.”
And if you’re not completely sure, you’re very welcome to contact me before arranging anything. You don’t need to know anything about boudoir photography yourself — I can talk you through how the experience works first.
How Do I Gift a Boudoir Experience?
You don’t need to choose her session date, what she’ll wear or what her photographs will look like.
A 50% deposit of £237.50 secures a Classic Boudoir Experience for her, and I’ll arrange a physical gift voucher for you to give her at Christmas. After Christmas, she can contact me directly to choose her session date and we’ll plan everything together.
The remaining balance is then due seven days before her chosen session, just as it would be with any other booking.
Gift vouchers are valid for 12 months, so there’s no pressure for her to choose a date immediately.
It means you have something beautiful and tangible to give her on Christmas Day, while she still has complete control over when her session happens and what she would like to create.
What Does Her Boudoir Experience Include?
My Classic Boudoir Experience is £475 and includes:
A personal consultation and session planning
Professional hair and makeup
Wardrobe guidance
Exclusive use of my private New Forest location
A fully guided boudoir photography session
A private one-to-one viewing
Five beautifully edited digital photographs of her choice
Additional photographs, complete digital collections and handmade albums are available afterwards if she falls in love with more, but there is never any expectation for her to purchase beyond what is already included.
Most importantly, the photographs belong to her.
Boudoir photography is incredibly personal, so her images will never be shared on my website, social media or elsewhere without her explicit written permission.
What If I Don’t Know What She Would Want to Wear?
You don’t need to choose any of that for her. In fact, please don’t. 😂
Once she has her session booked, I’ll help her plan what to bring. That might be beautiful lingerie, a bodysuit, an oversized shirt, a simple white sheet or something completely personal to her. She doesn’t need an entirely new lingerie drawer, and she certainly doesn’t need you to guess her bra size.
My work is intimate, feminine and quietly editorial, and we’ll create the session around what she is drawn to rather than asking her to fit into a particular idea of what boudoir should look like.
That part is for the two of us to work out together. You just get to take the credit for the present.
Or… Create a Secret Christmas Gift for Your Partner
There is, of course, another way to turn boudoir photography into a Christmas present.
Keep the session for yourself — and give them the photographs.
This is particularly fun. There’s the lingerie shopping. Secretly disappearing for your session. Trying not to accidentally reveal what you’ve been up to. And then choosing your photographs knowing that your partner has absolutely no idea they exist.
Your finished photographs can be kept as digital images, created as beautiful Polaroid-style prints from your chosen collection, or presented in a handmade album.
And while the photographs might begin with the intention of becoming a gift for somebody else, you still get the experience — and a collection of photographs of yourself that remain yours long after Christmas Day.
There doesn’t need to be a bigger reason behind it. Sometimes doing something a little indulgent, a little daring and completely out of the ordinary is reason enough.
When Should I Book a Boudoir Session for a Christmas Gift?
If you’re planning your own session and would like finished photographs or an album to give your partner on Christmas Day, I recommend having your session by late October or early November.
This gives us enough time for your session, private viewing, image preparation and, where required, album production without turning December into a slightly terrifying race against the postman.
Availability is naturally limited as we get closer to Christmas, so I would always recommend getting in touch earlier if you already know you’d like to do it.
If you are giving the boudoir experience itself as a Christmas present, there is much more flexibility.
Her session can take place after Christmas, giving her something rather lovely to look forward to in the new year. Once she gets in touch, we’ll choose her date and plan the experience together.
A Christmas Present That Doesn’t End on Christmas Day
Whether you’re giving someone the experience or secretly creating the photographs for them, boudoir is a very different sort of Christmas gift.
It can be beautiful and indulgent. Personal and a little unexpected.
For one woman, the fun might be in knowing she has an entire experience waiting for her after Christmas. For another, it might be keeping the biggest secret from her partner until the moment they open an album or discover a photograph on Christmas morning.
Either way, it becomes much more than another present under the tree.
