What Should You Wear to a Boudoir Photoshoot?

This is usually one of the very first questions I get asked — and often one of the biggest worries.

“What do I even wear?”
“What if I choose the wrong thing?”
“Do I need to buy lots of lingerie?”

Take a breath.

You don’t need a wardrobe full of outfits. You don’t need to get it perfect.

You just need pieces that feel like you.

Start With What Feels Comfortable

The most important thing isn’t how something looks on a hanger. It’s how it makes you feel when you put it on.

If you feel:

  • comfortable

  • supported

  • like yourself

…it will photograph beautifully.

Because confidence doesn’t come from the outfit. It comes from how at ease you feel wearing it.

You Don’t Have to Wear Lingerie

There’s a common assumption that boudoir means lingerie.

It can — but it doesn’t have to. Some of the most beautiful, natural images come from:

  • oversized shirts

  • soft knitwear

  • a simple white sheet

  • relaxed, everyday pieces

Boudoir is about softness and connection, not pressure.

If You Love Lingerie, Keep It Simple

If you do want to wear lingerie, choose pieces that feel comfortable and flattering — not complicated.

Look for:

  • soft lace or simple fabrics

  • well-fitting sets

  • neutral or light tones

Avoid anything that feels restrictive or unfamiliar. You should be able to move, breathe, and relax.

Where to Find Beautiful, Confidence-Boosting Pieces

If you’re not sure where to start, choosing from a few trusted brands can make everything feel much simpler.

Here are a few I often recommend to clients:

🤍 Remnants of Love

For something truly special, this is a beautiful option.

Each piece is handmade and bespoke, which means it’s created specifically for you — often using soft, romantic fabrics that feel incredibly personal.

Perfect if you’re:

  • booking a bridal boudoir session

  • looking for something meaningful rather than “off the shelf”

  • wanting your outfit to feel as special as the experience

Bluebella

One of my favourites for a reason.

Their pieces are:

  • elegant but modern

  • flattering without feeling overcomplicated

  • and accessible while still feeling luxurious

They’re known for creating fashion-led, sensual lingerie designed to feel empowering and wearable A perfect choice if you want something that feels polished but still comfortable.

🖤 Lounge

If you prefer something softer and more relaxed, this is a lovely option.

Think:

  • simple, minimal sets

  • soft fabrics

  • effortless, everyday comfort

Ideal if you’re feeling nervous and want something that helps you ease into the experience.

A Gentle Reminder

You don’t need expensive or elaborate pieces to have a beautiful session. Sometimes the simplest outfit — the one you feel most like yourself in — creates the most powerful images.

The brands above are just a starting point. What matters most is: 👉 how you feel when you wear it

Think 2–3 Outfits (Not More)

You don’t need lots of options.

In fact, keeping it simple helps everything feel more relaxed.

A perfect combination might be:

  • one lingerie set

  • one relaxed outfit (shirt / knit)

  • one slightly more personal piece

That’s more than enough.

Bridal Boudoir: Adding Meaningful Details

If you’re booking a bridal boudoir photoshoot, this is where you can bring in those extra touches.

Many brides include:

  • a veil

  • wedding lingerie

  • a shirt belonging to their partner

  • something sentimental

These small details add emotion and meaning without needing anything elaborate.

What About Shoes and Accessories?

This is completely optional.

Some clients bring:

  • heels

  • delicate jewellery

  • nothing at all

Often, less is more. The focus is always on you — as well as the styling.

You Don’t Have to Figure This Out Alone

One of the biggest misconceptions is that you need to arrive fully prepared with everything planned. You don’t.

Before your session, you’ll receive guidance on what works beautifully in the space, lighting, and style of your shoot.

And on the day, everything is gently guided — so you’re never left feeling unsure.

What If You’re Still Unsure?

That’s completely normal. Most women don’t feel 100% certain about what to bring — and that’s okay.

You don’t need perfect outfits to have a beautiful experience. You just need to show up, and I’m always here with help and guidance should you need it.

A Quiet Reassurance

If you’ve been overthinking what to wear, you’re not alone.

But the truth is: It matters far less than you think.

The atmosphere, the light, the way you’re guided — that’s what creates the final images.

And that’s all taken care of for you.

Thinking About Booking?

If you’re considering a boudoir session but feeling unsure about the details, you don’t need to have everything figured out first.

You can take your time, ask questions, and explore what feels right for you.
