You Are Allowed To Want Beautiful Photographs Of Yourself
I think a lot of women quietly talk themselves out of booking a boudoir session because they worry it feels self-indulgent somehow. As though wanting beautiful photographs of yourself must automatically mean vanity. Especially as women, mothers, brides and women used to putting everybody else first.
And honestly, I think many women carry far more guilt around being seen than people realise.
Women Are Often Comfortable Photographing Everybody Else
One thing I notice constantly is how naturally women document everybody around them.
Children.
Partners.
Families.
Weddings.
Holidays.
Ordinary little moments.
And yet when it comes to themselves, many women suddenly feel uncomfortable being fully visible. Almost as though they need to justify why they would want photographs that are simply for them. I think that’s partly why boudoir can feel unexpectedly emotional for some women. Because it asks them, often for the first time in a long time, to stop standing behind everybody else.
Wanting Beautiful Photographs Does Not Make You Vain
There’s a huge difference between wanting attention and wanting to feel remembered within your own life. Most women who book with me are not looking to become somebody different. They are usually looking for:
softness
reassurance
connection
femininity
a moment to feel looked after
a way to see themselves more gently
And honestly, that’s something women are allowed to want without apologising for it.
Boudoir Does Not Need To Feel Overly Performative
I think many women avoid boudoir because they imagine it feeling intimidating or overly sexualised. But the reality inside my sessions is much quieter than that.
Natural light.
Conversation.
Slow direction.
Music softly playing in the background.
Nothing rushed.
Nothing loud.
Nothing about trying to become somebody you are not.
The experience is intentionally calm because I know women photograph best when they feel emotionally safe enough to stop overthinking themselves.
Brides Often Feel This Most Strongly
Bridal boudoir clients especially struggle with giving themselves permission to take up space during wedding planning. Weddings can quickly become focused around:
guests
schedules
expectations
logistics
everybody else’s experience
And bridal boudoir often becomes one of the very few moments that feels quietly personal again. Not performative, for social media. or for anybody else’s approval. Just a private experience designed to help women slow down and feel beautifully photographed during a huge season of life.
You Are Allowed To Be Seen Too
That’s really what this comes down to. You are allowed to exist in photographs too. Not only as:
the mother
the organiser
the bride managing timelines
the woman taking photographs of everybody else
But as yourself, soft, feminine, present and beautifully documented too.
